Bizen Yaki

Yaki literally means fired and is the word used to express both a style of cooking and pottery. Bizen is the area where this particular pottery is made, so... Bizen Yaki is "pottery from the Bizen area". It is characterized by the dark cold-amber tone of the clay and the fact that it is not glazed when fired. After firing, Bizen Yaki is left with very dynamic markings on it from contact with rice stalks, used as padding, and other pots.
